Most projects start the same way: someone tells me their team needs a course. Before I open Storyline, I ask what's actually broken. Sometimes it's a skill gap. Sometimes it's a process problem no course will fix. That question comes from the MBA — two years of learning to read a business problem before proposing a solution, which is not the usual route into instructional design.
I'm Christopher Pruett, an instructional designer and eLearning developer based near Indianapolis. Over the last five years I've built learning for hospital RNs at Elsevier, R&D scientists at Corteva Agriscience, and behavioral health staff at The May Institute.
Different audiences, same discipline: needs analysis, storyboarding with SMEs, then development in Articulate Storyline, Rise 360, Adobe Captivate, or DominKnow depending on what the project actually calls for.
Proof the training worked. I wire xAPI into modules so supervisors can see the decisions learners made, not just a completion checkmark. SCORM packages get tested in CloudScorm before they ever touch a client LMS, because "it broke on upload" is a conversation I'd rather not have.
Accessibility as a default, not a retrofit. WCAG 2.1 from the storyboard forward. Captioning, contrast, keyboard navigation — decided early, when it's cheap.
The craft of the thing. At Corteva I designed curricula for 5,000+ R&D staff and produced seven videos for global events that reached over 20,000 viewers, editing in Premiere Pro and After Effects and building the graphics in Illustrator. I've also run in-person orientation for cohorts of 10 to 30, which is the fastest feedback loop in this field. You find out in about four minutes whether your content lands.
My frameworks are ADDIE, Kirkpatrick, and the 6Ds, grounded in adult learning theory. My tools are Articulate 360, Captivate, DominKnow, the Adobe Creative Cloud suite, Vyond, and Synthesia. But tools change every eighteen months. The part that doesn't change is asking the right question first.
Take a look at the work. If something in it fits a problem you're trying to solve, I'd like to hear about it.
